The lowa County Victim Witness Program has a designated area in the Courthouse known as the “Comfort Room” that allows victims of crime a quiet, sensory friendly, secured space for meetings and preparation for court proceedings. This space was made possible by grant funding secured through the Department of Justice Office of Crime Victim Services. While the grant covered the initial expense for supplies and furnishings for the room, there was more work needed with the acoustics of the historic vault area.
Enter the creative and artistic family that makes up Little Elk Art Collective in Mineral Point! Steve & Teya Engels, together with Jeaneane Owen and Eric Kudrna graciously donated the time, materials for construction and installation of the artfully created acoustic panels shown in the background of the photo. Further, they added soundproofing material to existing decor and donated a large canvas photograph to adorn the walls. They deserve thanks for for their time and effort to bring this project forward, their kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated. The space is even more cozy and comfortable with these quiet additions
