The need for better leaders

Dear Editor,

In today’s political landscape, constituents are becoming more and more frustrated with the lack of leadership exhibited by elected officials. When we elect officials to represent us, they need to actually address the needs of the people. Personally, I’m frustrated by a legislative agenda that is consumed by seeking political power and influence rather than one that reflects solving people’s problems. Recently, I became more encouraged by what I saw as true leadership. LIke other Cassville residents, I was drawn into the uproar over the possible building of a data center in our beautiful natural area. When the first township meeting was held, I found myself in a room jampacked with nervous citizens. Residents and Board members felt at a loss for accurate information about how to combat the possibility of a data center in our area. Amid a discussion filled with uncertainty, a strong voice spoke up, and a confident woman came forward to say she had knowledge about these data centers and connections to legal counsel equipped to deal with the problem we were facing. That woman was Potosi native, Lisa White, who is running against Howard Marklein, for the State Senate in the 17th District. Lisa has and continues to be actively involved in opposition to this data center. Lisa worked on organizing the Potosi Data Center Information Event featuring Charlie Berens. My husband and I also connected with Lisa through her painting business The Painter Lady, LLC. Getting to know her on a more personal level and seeing her confident leadership skills, I believe she is the kind of leader we need in Madison. For other frustrated voters who are looking for accountability in electing caring leaders, give Lisa a look. Check out her website and, more importantly, watch her in action. We need more legislators like her-not in it for the glory but in it to better the lives of her constituents.
