By the time you read this the Dodgeville School Board will have decided when they will present the public with their next referendum request.
The board discussed at length wheter to put the next ask out in the August or November elections. August will be a primary. District Administrator Ryan Bohnsack said the advantage of a vote in August will help the staff know if they will receive a salary adjustment. Currently, with the recent failed referendums, wages are frozen.
Board members discussed the November idea. The advantage would be to give the public more time to consider the ask.
One thing the board agrees on is that the referendum is needed for the district to continue providing quality programs.
Also discussed was running a survey through School Preceptions and it was noted a decision needs to be made by June 1 for an August referendum question.
The board voted to hold a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. today to decide the next step.
The board discussed the electronic device policy they will have in place for next school year. Favored is a complete ban during the day. Violations will be dealt with and disciplinary action will be implemented.
The board discussed a community resource coordinator that would work to promote large events and community activities. The money for the position is available through Fund 80. The position is expected to be a 10-20 hour per week need. The item was on the agenda this morning. The board accepted two resignations. Emmalyn Grau resigned at DMS art teacher and Ellie Wainwright as DES kindergarten teacher.
Bohnsack discussed board development and asked for ideas on how to make it happen with everyone’s schedule so busy. One idea was to make it part of the monthly committee meetings.
Bohnsack also discussed the Start Here Go Anywhere alumni recognition.
In other action the board accepted the EMC insurance proposal and renewed the WIAA senior high membership.
