Ridgeway – 608-341-8443

This last week has been interesting. I think it might become a new normal, which could prove to be good! The Ridgeway Town Board met on Thursday with a good crowd attending. The discussion that drew the most interest was centered around the review of the Wind Ordinance, 700-foot Industrial Wind Turbines, and Data Center Projects. If you want more involvement, it is suggested to attend a community conversation on Saturday, April 18th, at 5:00 p.m. This will be at the Quality Inn inside the Mineral Point Industrial Park and is sponsored by the Township of Mineral Point.

A representative from Republic Services, formerly Faherty, was present to discuss the next year’s contract and listened to concerns about how the transition to Republic for garbage and recycling has come with challenges. The mechanical condition of the transferred trucks used for pickup is poor. Republic is waiting for new trucks to be delivered to help decrease breakdowns. It was also noted that if the same truck was picking up both garbage and recyclables, they had the potential to not be separated from the garbage. If you have a bin not emptied, please leave it at the pickup location and give it more time because they use separate trucks for garbage and recyclables. Notices of problems, meetings, and clean sweep information can be sent out if Nicole has your email. If you want honest local information, it’s best to get it straight from your local government municipality.

The Town of Ridgeway Clean Sweep (Ridgeway Township Residents Only) on the morning of April 25th will be a great time to give Nicole, the Town of Ridgeway Clerk, your email. More information on the Annual Clean Sweep can be found on the Town of Ridgeway website. Go to notices for information on several items. New this year is free electronic recycling. Metal is welcome, as that helps fund the day. Thank you for participating!

The Ridgeway Township Land Use Committee accepted Mike Scheidegger and Janet Pedder as new commissioners. Tom McGraw has moved to Town Board Supervisor, and Tim Lease is stepping away. Both Tom and Tim have served for many years to approve land use changes. Mike and Janet will join Miles Narveson, Doug Hansmann, and Rich Strutt.

Just a reminder, the Village of Ridgeway Garage Sales are partnered with Barneveld this year. The deadline to be included on the map and promoted is April 24th. The Garage Sales are May 15th through May 17th. Contact the Village of Ridgeway.

The Ridgeway American Legion will be having the last Steak Dinner for the season on Saturday, April 18th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The choices are steak or chicken breast. Carry-outs available and all meals include salad, baked potato, baked beans, French bread, and a choice of coffee or milk.

The Hidden Valley Community Church raised $1,663.00 for the Senior Nutrition Program in Iowa County. This is in addition to providing space for senior meals in Dodgeville, Ridgeway, and Arena. This includes group dine-in space, kitchen to package and clean-up. Hidden Valley Church will be collecting diapers for New Beginnings as their April monthly serving focus. Hidden Valley Community Church will also be raising funds for New Beginnings by selling baked goods at the Grilled Cheese Championship on April 25th. If you might get embarrassed purchasing diapers and don’t want the neighbors to think someone had an oops baby, donating your private family sweet treats is a great plan. You get to support those in need. The Hidden Valley booth will be open for the whole day from 11:00 a.m. to the awards at 4:00 p.m. Just do it and drop off goodies at the church on Friday morning, April 24th. Yes, if goodies are left over, they will be available after church on Sunday, April 26th. Volunteers for different tasks and times would be appreciated.

The Performance Assessed Clean Energy approved a project in Verona at 285 Wildcat Way for retroactive financing for Senior Living. The improvements included lighting systems, control systems for HVAC, and hot water. The ENERGY STAR windows and building envelope improvements will result in a savings of 22% above the WI Energy Code. The project was completed in early 2025 with a loan term of 30 years.

The Friends of the Military Ridge is continuing to collect your bikes in any condition for Bikes for Kids Wisconsin. Words and punctuation are important. Donna said that I misled her 48 years ago when we got married. I told her, “your my everything.” She corrected me to “you’re my everything.” Donna felt like she had corrected my word choice. I didn’t correct her because I wanted her to stay, she was literally all that I had at the time. Did she think I had money?
