Mineral Point scored four runs in the first inning, four more in the second, and five in the fourth while pounding out sixteen hits. Brylen Lee led the way by going 4-for-4 at the plate as the Pointers beat Darlington 15-8 on the road Friday.
In that first inning with one out, Grady Finley and Brett Bossert both walked. Finley reached third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Evan Kearns hit a double to score Bossert. Cole Ripp then ripped a double to left scoring a run making it 3-0. Lee then singled home Ripp and a 4-0 advantage.
In the top of the second inning, Bossert connected on a three-run home run to make it 7-0. With two outs, Lee doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball, and then scored on an error by Darlington catcher Dante Glendenning.
Darlington’s Parker Mosely hit a solo homer to make it 8-1 after two innings.
In the top half of the fourth inning, Finley and Bossert were both hit by a pitch when Kearns connected on his second double of the game scoring both runners. Lee singled putting runners at the corner when Hudson Schroeder doubled which scored one run, and an error on the same play scored Lee with Schroder advancing to third base. He later scored on Elliot Kite’s single making it 13-1.
Darlington chipped away at the score scoring seven runs over the last four innings. Mineral Point scored two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Combined, both teams tallied 28 hits in the game, and both teams committed three errors.
The Pointers banged out six doubles in the game, two by Kearns, with Bossert, Lee, Ripp and Schroeder each connecting on one. Bossert also homered.
Besides collecting four hits, Lee got the win on the mound. The starting pitcher went four innings allowing five hits and two runs. He struck out five and walked one. Kite pitched the final three innings for the Pointers allowing seven hits and six runs,. He struck out three and walked two.
