Name on Ballot: Michelle Peterson

How long have you lived in Dodgeville and what attracted you to here?
I was born and raised in Dodgeville and have always called it home. After attending Dodgeville Schools, I continued living here-first renting and later purchasing my second home. I’ve worked at Lands’ End for 23 years and have chosen to stay because
I truly love this community and everything it represents.
What experience do you have with city government?
While I have not previously held a public office, I’m actively involved in Dodgeville through volunteering at many community events, which I believe are essential to our city’s spirit and success. Through my volunteer work, I always look for ways to make processes better and more efficient, and I intend to bring that same proactive mindset to the city council. I also attend city council meetings and approach this opportunity with an open and collaborative attitude.
Tell us about yourself
I attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School and Dodgeville High School before continuing my education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, studying Administrative Assistant coursework. I began working at Lands” End at age 17, balancing school and work, and I eventually found my passion in the Merchandising Department.
Volunteering is something deeply rooted in me-from my faith at St. Joseph’s to my commitment today. You’ll often find me at community events like the Grilled Cheese Championship, DodgeFest, and Iowa County Santa Cop. My brother, Michael, serves as the Sheriff of Iowa County, and through him I’ve learned a great deal about leadership and serving others.
What made you decide to run for a position on the city council?
When the city council position became available, I felt it was the right moment to step forward. I believe I can be an effective voice for our residents, always putting their needs first. With our council representing a diverse group of people from different backgrounds, ages, and experiences, I’m confident I can contribute meaningfully and help strengthen our community.
Name three areas needing attention in the community and how you would support addressing the needs.
Three areas I believe need focused attention include:
Public safety: Ensuring our emergency services have the staff, training, and tools they need to keep our community safe.
The Horse Barn property: With both the city and county involved, I believe it’s important to collaborate on how best to use this space. Many residents have suggested it could be a great location for a dog park and walking path.
Community and economic development: Continuing to develop our ward by supporting new residential areas and working with Mayor Hottman to attract and sustain new businesses.
What would you like to see improved in your ward?
In my ward, I’d like to address ongoing issues with unwanted appliances and junk being left on curbs when residents move out-items that trash collectors can’t take. City employees who see these areas should be encouraged to report them promptly so property owners can be notified sooner.
Why should people vote for you?
My ward holds great potential for business and residential growth. I believe that by working together, we can make sure this area is developed responsibly and with the community’s best interests in mind.

How long have you lived in Dodgeville and what do you like about it?
I have lived in this area almost all my life. I lived in the city of Dodgeville, for the last 11 years.
Tell us about yourself:
My background is electrical, electrical engineering.
Why are you running for the council and give three areas you feel need attention?
#1 Main reason for running is to develop more affordable housing. Dodgeville hasn’t developed affordable housing for the last 30 years. Residence want to own their own homes.
No more low income apartment complexes. This only stresses out our police department and amblins services.
#2 Update our streets.
We need to develop a city infrastrure master plan that provides certainity to street repair, construction timelines and zoning districts
#3 With solar and geothermal. Update Dodgeville school systems energy efficiencies usage.
Including the power usage of the city of Dodgeville’s utilities of Sewer plant. With no expense to the taxpayers, And save a huge amount of taxpayers money.
Why should people vote for you?
I have always believed that good government focuses on its core responsibilities and is responsive to the residents. As I consider the issues and cast votes I will always have the best interests of the city and our residents in mind. I refuse to play politics and will focus on what matters t ensure the city continues to be a great place to live, raise a family and retire.
