River Valley’s softball team outhit McFarland 10-7 Monday in a non-conerence game but the Spartans claimed a 13-5 win aided by five errors by the Blackhawks and five walks.
Brooklyn Stokes led the Hawks with a 3×4 night. Stokes singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
McFarland got on the board in the top of the first inning after a dropped third strike scored one run, and Berg grounded out, scoring two runs.
McFarland added one run in the third. Roder grounded out, making the score 4-0.
McFarland scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. An error scored one run, Berg singled, scoring two runs, Wedan singled, scoring one run, and Schuchardt tripled, scoring four runs.
Schuchardt earned the win for McFarland. The hurler allowed 10 hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking none.
Maizy Strobush took the loss for River Valley. The hurler went four innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out four and walking one.
Ashlyn Stokes finished on the slab for the Hawks.
The Blackhawks tallied 10 hits in the game. Bella De Viney collected two hits for the Blackhawks in three at bats. Stokes stole two bases.
Schuchardt led McFarland with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Crist led McFarland with two hits in four at bats. Schuchardt, Roder, Crist, and Tauferner each stole multiple bases for McFarland. McFarland had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. McFarland stole eight bases in the game and turned one double play.
