Last week’s student letter

Dear Editor,

Praise be to Felix Wieczorek for the very well written letter compelling a yes vote for the school referendum.

It is too bad that the school has to ask for local money, since State and Federal money has decreased. State and Federal money should be funding all of the public schools — so that money can be spread out to all communities, large and small — so that educational opportunities can be equal through out the U.S.

Our legislators are responsible for the laws that have lessened State and Federal funding. Vote for laws to be changed to provide more State and Federal money for schools.

Which candidates will do that for us?

One candidate, Ben Gruber from Arena, understands our situation. Arena lost it’s public school. Gruber calls public school funding a day one priority.

Since the referendum is expected to cover 3 years, it’s time now to petition our current and soon to be elected new legistrators to fix the laws that govern our tax dollar spending, by allocating more of our tax dollars to benefit our public school system as needed before the end of 3 years.

Of course, either way, we will probably be expected to pay more taxes, but we would also expect more fair distribution of funding across our state and the country as a whole. Thus, our local schools wouldn’t constantly need to spend time and money on referendums, and our local schools would be more competitive nationally.

Hasn’t it been acclaimed over and over again, “Children are our greatest asset”?

If you believe that, “Put your money where your mouth is.”
