The Iowa-Grant Lions Club acknowledged the end of another successful summer baseball and softball season at the Livingston Sports Park ballfields. The club runs the concession stand at the ballfield and wants to thank everybody for their support. This is the main fundraising activity for the club. The members of the club, along with the help of the Iowa- Grant Leo Club, put in over 540 volunteer hours of work selling food at the stand. There were 69 games played at the park this season on 39 different days and nights.

Special thanks also needs to be given to Invenergy for donating enough money to buy over 1500 hamburgers for the club. The meat was purchased at Biddck’s 7 Foot Farms right here in Livingston, helping our local community. Invenergy is very active in being a part of our community and is glad to help many of our local organizations whenever they can.

Another special shout out needs to go to the Friendly Place Mobil Station for helping the club with supplies for the stand. For many years now, Tim, Kristi and Patrick Loeffelholz have given us great support and we appreciate that very much.

Without the help of these organizations, we would not be able to do all that we do in our community. This summer we bought more safety netting for the softball field to stop foul balls from going into the crowd. Club secretary Jerry Smalley said that in the first two weeks after the net was installed he saw a dozen foul balls hit into the net. We have always tried to help with improvements at all of our parks by making donations toward playground equipment. This summer we donated $1000 toward new playground equipment for the park in Rewey. The club has a long term goal of buying new bleachers at the Livingston Sports Park.

Besides improvements at the parks, the Iowa-Grant Lions gave out $4000 in Leo Club Scholarships to Iowa-Grant graduating seniors to help them with college or technical school. We have made donations to support the Montfort Rescue Squad, the Livingston-Clifton First Responders, the Livingston-Clifton Fire Department and the Livingston Food Pantry. We support many programs at the Iowa-Grant Schools and our members donate their time to help elementary students with their reading skills.

Outside of our community, we support the Wisconin Lions Camp, the Restoring Hope Transplant House in Middleton, Lions Eye Bank, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Diabetes Programs and Lions International Youth Exchange.

The Lions motto is “We Serve” and we try to live up to that motto by working hard in our community making it a better place.

Again, we want to thank everyone for their support.
