Iowa-Grant scored runs in six of their seven innings and cruised past Darlington Friday afternoon at Otto Ruf baseball field.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Sam Lundell doubled and scored when Brock Hinderman reached first on an error. Hinderman later scored from third on a wild pitch. Brody Lindner then singled, stole second base, and advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch making it 3-0.
They scored three more runs in the second. With two outs, Myles Pettit singled and he scored on Everett Zimmer’s double to right field. Lundell then reached first base on an error with that error allowing Zimmer to score. Lundell advanced to third on Hinderman’s single, and he scored on Lindner’s single making it 6-0.
In the third, the Panthers made it 8-0 on Will Fulton’s two-run home run to right field. Darlington scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, and in the top of the fourth inning, Iowa-Grant scored two more runs making it 10-1.
The Redbirds inched back into the game scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning closing the gap to 10-5. Iowa-Grant scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to make the final score 13-5. In the sixth, Ty Cutts doubled to start the inning, and he scored when the next batter, Cole Schauff doubled. Cardinals shut out by Braves
Jack Tarrell got the lone hit for the Highland Cardinals in a 21-0 loss to Belmont in a Six Rivers West baseball game Friday.
The Braves scored multiple runs in all five innings to amass their total. They had 19 total hits.
Ian Austin went all five frames for the Braves, walking one and striking out 10.
Kaden Washa, Tarrell and Trapper Hoffman all did some pitching for the Cardinals. All three had two strikeouts. home for the final run.
For Iowa-Grant, Ayson Speth started on the mound pitching three innings allowing two hits, one run and striking out three. Owen Wyatt got the win pitching four innings allowing seven hits, and four runs. He stuck out six and walked two.
The Panthers banged out twelve hits in the game with Lindner and Cutts both going 2×2 leading the way at the plate. Schauff, Zimmer, Lundell, and Cutts all doubled for Iowa-Grant. Landon Edgerton and Grady O’Brien led Darlington with two hits each.
Vikings shut out by P/C
Pecatonica could only manage three hits Saturday in a 14-0 loss to Potosi/Cassville in Six Rivers softball.
Kiaya York had two of the Vikings hits and Chloe Bocklund one.
Jenna Kurschner, Caya Doescher and York all took turns in the circle for the Vikings. Kurschner registered a pair of strikeouts.
