Highland volleyball co-op approved by I-G school board

Iowa-Grant volleyball will have some additional numbers next season when they are joined in a VB co-op by Highland.

The Iowa-Grant school board gave approval to the co-op at a special meeting Tuesday. The vote to co-op was unanimous.

The board reviewed the numbers connected with the co-op. The combined enrollment could push the coop up a division and will at least put them on the borderline. Enrollment will be determined after the third Friday count and principal Chris Gotto expects the high school numbers to be 220 or so. Highland is projected in the 70s.

As for volleyball numbers at I-G Gotto said it appears to be 24/25. There were 30 or so interested but some opted for cross country.

“It appears we have room which makes sense for the co-op,” board member Mary Schauff said as she made the motion to approve.

The fun part starts now as ADs, principals, conferences and the WIAA need to be contacted with the co-op request. The matter called for a special meeting as all paperwork to the WIAA must be submitted by October 1.
