Highland school board wraps up financial year

The Highland School Board wrapped up their year end financials at a special meeting last Wednesday with some good news.

District Administrator Josh Tarrell reported year ended with $663,850 that can be put in various funds to help the district going forth. The board learned the district underspent by 8.1%.

The board then voted to place funds in Fund 46 and Fund Balance. The amount in Fund 46 will not exceed $400 to $600 thousand. The final amount will be available when all bills are paid.

Tarrell also reported on damage around the school caused by the recent tornado. The athletic facilities lights were turned and will be refocused. There was also damage to trees and the school forest.

The board spent time with principal Ashley Halvorson reviewing handbooks for Students, Activities and Coaches and voted to pass all three. They also approved the WIN handbook (What I Need). Th handbook for the children at risk program that has multi levels of supports for our at risk learners

The board also approved administration and support staff contracts for next year and tabled the Sophomore advisor.

In a final action the board voted to split the athletic director position next year with Ashley Halvorson, Lynn Michek, and Josh Tarrell all assuming roles.
