One of the question marks coming into the 2026 season for Mount Horeb/Barneveld’s football team was who would take over quarterback duties.
Last year’s signal caller Brooks Hendrickson ended a storied career by earning a Division 1 scholarship to University of North Dakota. So the position was open.
Friday it was filled by junior Harvey Hellen who guided the Vikings to a 14-10 win over defending Division 3 state champion Grafton. Hellen completed 13 of 19 passes, one resulting in a touchdown and had no interceptions.
When Hellen was not passing the ball he was handing it off to senior running back Eli Maier who traveled the turf for 151 yards on 22 carries. The Vikings had a balanced attack with 126 passing yards and 157 rushing. Hellen also contributed a rushing touchdown.
Rounding out the scoring, which all took place the first half, was senior kicker Cullen Olson who booted two extra points.
The Vikings head to Port Washington Friday.
