Dear Editor,
In reply to the August 20 letter entitled “Who Should Hold Public Office In the United States of America”. The characteristics of the people the author describes who should not hold public office is a full-throated description of our current President-disrespectful of our democracy, use of divisive and racist rhetoric, disrespectful of the men and women who have fought and are now fighting to preserve our democracy, disrespectful of our values, imposing his abuse of power and corruption on America, and the list goes on and on. Yet, he is our President.
I would further add that my understanding of origins based on family names would suggest that the author’s family were immigrants to the US possibly born in Germany. I hope none of his immigrant family aspired to or held public office. Based on his August 20 letter, I am certain the author would agree this would have been a danger to America. Sadly, the aforementioned letter is another example of stereotyping and divisive conspiratorial disinformation.
