Esch, Eagles shut out Dodgers on two hits

Barneveld senior pitcher Hannah Esch did not overpower the Dodgers in the Golden Eagles 11-0 non-conference win Thursday.

But she did keep them off balance in the shutout. She allowed only a double by Addison Reilly and a single by Alana Bradley.

Bradley was on base twice for the Dodgers as she was the recipient of Esch’s lone walk. Esch struck out four in the complete game win.

Brienna Wasley pitched 4 2/3 innings for the Dodgers and Kendra Brom came on to get the last out. Both struck out one.

For the Eagles, Eliza Gordon had a 3×4 day at the plate with two doubles. Reagan Knight was 2×3 and also doubled. The rest of the Eagles hits came from Addison Carden, Esch, Mya Norton, Aleea Norton, Isabel Pohlman and Lauren Reese. Pohlman and Mya Norton both reached the fences for home runs.

Eight runs in the fifth inning by the Eagles put the game out of reach. They did some scoring before the big frame.

Barneveld opened the scoring in the first when Carden singled in a run.

The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a home run to right field by Mya Norton.

Barneveld scored eight runs on six hits in the top of the fifth inning. Gordon doubled, scoring one run, Norton singled, scoring one run, Carden scored after tagging up, Pohlman hit a grand slam to center field, and Gordon doubled, scoring one more run.

Barneveld collected 11 hits in the game. Pohlman led Barneveld with four runs batted in as she went 1-for- 3 on the day.
