Barneveld’s boys basketball team has been working on getting off to a good start
The Golden Eagles did that and more in very convincing fashion. The result was a Senior Night romp over Juda, 87-41, in a game that was never in doubt. It was virtually out of reach by halftime, 49-22.
Hunter Larson had 21 of his game high 26 points in the opening period. That was one less point than the entire Juda team scored over the same time.
Rounding out the double figure scoring for the Eagles were Judson Poad with 14 and Mason Durst with 10.
Barneveld head coach Tyler Sullivan has been around high school senior nights to know it is an emotional time.
“What a special night for our Seniors,” Sullivan said “I am so proud of each and every one of them, and they should be proud of the lasting impact they left on our program.”
“These nights can sometimes get emotional and you never know how they will react, but these guys came ready to play from the jump,” a happy Sullivan said. “We came out with great intensity and jumped out to a big lead.”
After a 49-22 first half the Eagles put the clamps on the Ponies, allowing only 19 second period points.
“Our defensive pressure and ability to share the basketball was excellent tonight,” said Sullivan. “We had lots of guys do great things tonight, and I love the effort every single guy gave.”
The Eagles had 10 of the dozen that played record points.
As the Golden Eagles head into the post season Sullivan was pleased with the strong finished to the regular season that resulted in a fourth straight Six Rivers East title.
“It was a great end to our regular season, and I think the boys are really focused on what is next,” Sullivan said. “Excited to see what this group can do going forward.”
