Dear Editor,
The City and Dodgeville School District are hosting a community assembly of 36 participants on October 10 to address declining enrollment and local housing issues. If you are a selected participant, congratulations, but please be a critical thinker. Do some research so you are informed vs just reading/hearing what the City and District will be sharing with you. There are always 2 sides of a coin. Yes, school district enrollment is declining. What won’t be shared, students are electing to transfer out or home school for various reasons, some due to bullying, some due to academics or school climate. And statistically Iowa County is not a growing county, nor projected to grow. City housing is getting costly,
but look at the reasons, some of which may be the escalating taxes, high water and sewer bills, etc. City government can control much of this, and the school district has several options to grow enrollment AND improve their finances (w/o a referendum) if they seriously look within. I am not an expert, but I have done some serious research. You, too, need to be informed in order to provide viable solutions. And asking Legislators or taxpayers to bail out ‘overspending’ or provide more grants, etc is not being an informed participant. Be prepared. Don’t be gullible and primarily led by emotions.
