Charles “Charlie” L. Halverson

Charles “Charlie” L. Halverson, 90, of Benton, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. A funeral service with military honors accorded will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI; with Pastor Bill Vasey officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Family & friends may call on Sunday, July 5th from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Charlie was born on January 17, 1936 to Henry & Alice (Arthur) Halverson in Dodgeville, WI. He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1954-1957. He married Ruth C. Mauthe on August 12, 1961 in Dubuque, IA. He worked for 33 years at John Deere Dubuque Works. He was a member of the NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the North American Hunting Club.

Charlie was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and field trials with his coon dogs. He will be best remembered for his jokes and “dry” sense of humor, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Ruth; 3 children: Rick Halverson of Cassville, WI, Sherri (Dan Leahy) McDermott of Cuba City, WI & Marcia (David) Adams of Kohler, WI; 6 grandchildren: Ryan (Melissa) Halverson, Adam (Yuliia) Halverson, Marisa Adams, Caleb Adams, Collin Adams & Wyatt Mohn; 4 great-grandchildren: Lil’ Charlie, Ewa, Jaxon & Kingstin; a brother, Arthur (Rose) Halverson; a sister, Patricia Evanoff; brother-in-law, Delbert Heins; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: infant brother John Halverson & James (Rose) Halverson; a sister, Margaret Halverson; a brother-in-law, Gerald Evanoff; a son-in-law, Merle McDermott; daughter-in-law, Lisa Halverson; a nephew, Christopher Halverson; in-laws: John “Jack” & Mina Mauthe; sisters-in-law: Joanne Heins, Barb (Berwyn) Weigel, Mary Lee; brothers-in-law: Robert (Jane) Mauthe, Leonard Mauthe, Norman (Joyce) Mauthe.
