The 14-4 win the Verona Cavaliers picked up over Ridgeway Friday was deceptive.
It took the Cavs all nine innings to get their total as the Cardinals avoided the 10 run rule. The Cardinals had seven hits in the win including a solo home run by Miles Rolli and doubles by Bo Levetzow, Ayden Halverson and Jesse Ruiz. Evan Kearns contributed a single. Verona got on the board in the top of the third inning after Carter Kelley doubled down the right field line, and Tristan Largent homered to right field, each scoring one run.
Ridgeway jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Wyatt Peat grounded into a fielder’s choice, and the Cavaliers committed an error, each scoring one run.
The Cavaliers took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Brady Patten walked, and Mason Fink was struck by a pitch, each resulting in a run.
James Rae homered to center field, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth for Verona.
Rolli hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the eighth for the Ridgeway.
The Cavaliers added four more runs in the top of the ninth inning on four hits. B Love induced Kelley to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Patten homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Liam Stumpf earned the win for Verona. He surrendered seven hits and four runs (three earned) over eight innings, striking out seven and walking none.
Adam Cody took the loss for Ridgeway. The hurler went two innings, giving up two runs on one hit, striking out one and walking two.
Halverson started the game for Ridgeway. The hurler gave up two hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two.
Jacob Slonim pitched one inning of shutout ball for Verona Cavaliers in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
