It was a good day of volleyball for Highland at Saturday’s Barneveld tournament.
Highland went 3-1 on the day with their only loss to Barneveld Scores for the day for the Cardinals were:
-Albany 25-7, 25-16 -Barneveld 13-25, 22-25 -Benton 25-14, 25-10 -Pecatonica 25-20, 25-19
Stats for the Cardinals for the day were:
-Sophie Tarrell 27 kills, 12 blocks -Celia Oleson 24 kills, 39 digs 3 aces
-Adilyn Esser 12 kills, 4 blocks 2 aces
-Marissa Biba 8 kills, 24 digs 1 aces -Ava. Michek, 71 assists, 5 kills, 3 aces
-Lily Tarrell, 13 digs, 1 ace -Stella Biba & Emily Laufenberg 1 kill each.
-Emily Laufenberg 1 block -Della Cardoso 3 digs
Cardinals coach Maria Wineski felt the team got a lot out of their day on the court.
“It was a good day of volleyball and the girls played hard,” said the coach. “We had a slow start vs Barneveld but it was a good test to see where we need to focus for improvement.”
The loss was after two hard fought sets.
“Pec was a tough team,” Wineski said. “They are young but they cov-
ered the floor well and challenged us. Our middle blockers, Sophie and Adilyn, do a great job helping our defense and making the other team work for their points. It was a great team effort and we took away a lot of positives.”
