River Valley’s softball team saved the best until last when they played Columbus in a non-conference game Thursday,
The Blackhawks went into the bottom of the seventh trailing 10-6 but found a way to gain the win with a five run explosion.
Four straight walks to Kylie Smith,
Alyssa Nachreiner, Josie Mahoney and Ashlyn Stokes got them one run. A double by Brooklyn Stokes tied it and an error and a ball hit by Ella Prochaska sent in the winning talley. Brooklyn Stokes and Nachreiner both had two hits. Prochaska, Ella Myers and Maizey Strobush also had hits.
Strobush want 5 2/3 for the Hawks. She gave up all 10 runs on 11 hits with only one of the runs earned. She struck out two and walked three.
Ashlyn Stokes finished with three punchouts. She gave up two hits.
Prior to the big frame River Valley scored twice in the second, fourth and fifth.
