1984 Barneveld Track & Field Team
The Eagles Fly Fundraising Committee was approved by the school board for a Track & Field Facility, which understands that the tradition of Track & Field is important because it provides opportunities to youth in the Barneveld School District. The present Middle School track program operates without a dedicated Track & Field facility, which limits opportunities to safely develop the desired technical skills and prepare for competition. It is hoped that the completion of this facility can happen in the spring of 2027-2028.
The Barneveld Multi-Event Track & Field Facility will include three 60-meter sprint lanes, a long and triple jump runway and pit, hurdle training space, starting block areas, and speed development opportunities. This is planned to be a place where students learn, athletes grow, and families gather by providing space for physical education and community wellness initiatives for future generations.
Track & Field was a strong part of the Barneveld community until 1984, when the school lost its head Track & Field coach. Nearly four decades later, community members came together to help bring the sport back to Barneveld. In 2023, with community support, a proposal was brought to the Barneveld School Board to establish a Middle School Track & Field program. Since then, Barneveld has celebrated four years of Middle School Track & Field, along with summer programming as facilities have allowed. Programs such as the Eagle Run-A-Thon and Summer Sole Mates are helping build excitement, confidence, and a love of running and movement long before students reach middle school.
From the restart in 2023 until 2026, a total of 116 student-athletes have participated in the middle school program. Every athlete celebrates personal improvement by earning a “Personal Record” Footprint. The PR Print shows success is measured not by comparison to others, but by becoming better than yesterday. That culture of encouragement shows remarkable growth as the Barneveld Middle School qualifiers have increased from one athlete in 2023 to ten athletes in 2026. To date, 22 Barneveld student-athletes have continued the sport to compete at the High School Track & Field cooperative with Wisconsin Heights from middle school.
Track & Field is more than a sport. It creates an inclusive opportunity where every student can discover their strengths, build confidence, and pursue personal improvement. Track & Field offers every student an opportunity to find an event where they can belong, contribute, and experience success. Fundraising for the Multi-Event Track Facility Project in Barneveld by community members has raised a sizable amount of funds. The Barneveld Advancement Association has donated $4,000, with other donations reaching a total of $25,000. You can follow the Eagles Fly Fundraising Committee on Facebook. The goal is $150,000, with future outreach now planned for the final Dream Makers Farmers Market in Barneveld on Sunday, September 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Further in the future is a spaghetti dinner at the Barneveld Legion Hall.
