Eagles score in 8th to top Panthers

Ghost runner Reagen Knight scored what proved to be the winning run on an error in the top of the eighth and Lauren Reese did the rest.

With Barneveld and Iowa-Grant knotted at 3-3 after seven innings the California rule was imposed. Knight, the Golden Eagles catcher, was placed on second then bunted to third by Isabel Pohlman. After a fly out in the infield Eagles shortstop Eliza Gordon’s grounder was misplayed allowing Knight to score.

Lauren Reese, in relief of Hannah Esch, finished strong with a strikeout, a liner back to her and another strikeout to give the Eagles a 4-3 non-conference win.

Hits were hard to come by as Barneveld registered five and I-G three. Addison Walker was 2×3 for the Eagles. Esch had a two run double in the first with the other two hits were singles by Knight and Reese.

Eva Klaas tripled to drive in a run for the Panthers to start their scoring in the bottom of the first. Carley Shores then tied it with a ground out rbi.

The Panthers went up 3-2 with a run in the third and the Eagles tied it in the fourth. The score stayed that way until the eighth.

Quinn Hoeper and Brynne Pettit had the rest of the hits for the Panthers.
