Barneveld banged out fourteen hits led by Eliza Gordon and Aleea Norton, who had three hits each, and Hannah Esch pitched a three-hitter as the Golden Eagles shut out New Glarus/Monticello Monday afternoon 12-0 in five innings.
Barneveld jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Gordon singled and Addison Carden reached base on an error. Esch then doubled to bring in Gordon from third. Aleea Norton’s single scored Carden, and Mya Norton’s single later in the inning scored another run.
In the bottom of the third with two outs, Lauren Reese singled and scored Aleea Norton, who earlier singled. Reese, who was at second base, scored on two consecutive wild pitches making it 5-0.
The big blow came in the bottom of the fourth inning as Barneveld erupted for seven runs. Esch singled to left field but an error by Olivia Merten allowed two runs to score. Later in the inning with bases loaded and one out, Mya Norton doubled to center scoring two runs. Back-toback singles by Reagan Knight and Gordon scored two runs making it 11-0, and Carden’s double to left scored another run making the final score 12-0.
