Barneveld scored seven runs in the second inning enroute to an 11- 1 victory at home against Monticello/Albany Monday afternoon.
In that second inning, leadoff batter Landon Beicher singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Ty Thousand walked and Cooper Shipman singled home Beicher. Liam Genrich’s single scored Thousand. Shipman would score on a wild pitch, and Aden Knight’s double scored Genrich. Knight scored on Mason Haesler’s ground out making it 5-0.
With nobody on base and one out, Mason Durst was hit by a pitch. He stole second and scored on Hunter Larson’s double to center field. Karson Leuzinger walked, and on a double steal, Larson and Leuzinger advanced to second and third base. Larson scored on Beicher’s infield ground out. Barneveld scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning to win it 11-1.
Larson and Thousand split mound duties with Larson getting the win. He pitched two innings and did not allow a hit while striking out four batters. Thousand pitched three innings allowing one two hits, one run, he struck out four batters and walked three.
Offensively Barneveld had only six hits, one each by Larson, Beicher, Shipman, Genrich, Knight and Haesler. Knight and Larson’s hits were doubles.
