Barneveld baseball defeats Pecatonica

Barneveld banged out sixteen hits and scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Pecatonica Thursday afternoon at Jim Strommen Field in Blanchardville and remain undefeated this season at 17-0.

The Eagles quickly grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning scoring three runs. Mason Durst walked and after stealing second base, then third base, Karsen Leuzinger doubled to score Durst. Landon Beicher then singled and stole second base. With two outs and runners on second and third, backto-back singles by Cooper Shipman and Liam Genrich scored those runners making it 3-0.

Pecatonica made it 3-1 scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning when Austin Enloe singled, and he scored on Reid Schlimngen’s double to center field.

In the top of the fourth inning, Barneveld scored two more runs when Durst singled and advanced to second on an error. He scored on Hunter Larson’s single. Larson then advanced to third base on Beicher’s single. Ty Thousand grounded into a fielder’s choice which scored Larson making it 5- 1.

It remained 5-1 until the top of the seventh inning when the flood gates opened. With bases loaded and one out, Durst singled to plate two runs. Larson then singled, scoring another run. With bases loaded again, it was Beicher again hitting a single that scored two runs making it 10-1. Three consecutive singles by Shipman, Thousand and Aden Knight scored the remaining four runs.

Pecatonica would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score of 14-3.

Beicher and Genrich led Barneveld at the plate with three hits. Durst, Larson and Shipman each had two hits. Larson got the win for the Eagles and again was tough on the mound pitching five innings, allowing five hits and one run. He struck out nine and walked two. In relief, Durst pitched two innings allowing one hit, two runs and he struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Enloe and Schlimgen led Pecatonica at the plate each getting two hits. Enloe took the loss for the Vikings on the mound. He allowed eight hits, gave up 5 runs. He struck out four and walked four.
