On April 4th, the first of 2026’s Gallery Night events, Green Lantern Studios hosted a celebration for their current exhibition, “Atwood Atelier on the move”. This is a show that features paintings, drawings, and photography – all created by 11 artists from the Madison area.
Katie Hogan is a workshop leader with the Atwood Atelier. She describes the Atelier as an art studio and school, focusing on a classically inspired approach to contemporary painting and figure drawing. The Atelier hosts workshops, classes, gallery nights, and uninstructed open studio figure drawing sessions, all of which are open to a variety of media and skill levels. Founded in 2011 by Philip Salamone, the Atelier has had multiple homes around the city’s east side, continuing to grow into the artistic community it is today. Studio members and attendees have in common a love of figure drawing and portrait painting, and a shared drive to learn and improve their artistic skills and expression.
In addition to Katie and Philip, there are other instructors – Lydia Zoells is currently teaching a ‘painting the clothed figure’ course, and Brigitte Boucher teaches weekend workshops fairly frequently. Additionally, visiting artists provide varied education.
Come and see the artworks that this group of dedicated artists has produced! The content of “Atwood Atelier on the move” is focused on both portraiture and the landscape – accessible, understandable imagery. Green Lantern Studios has regular gallery hours: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 to 5, and Sunday from 11 to 3. This exhibition will be on view through April 26th.
