I have been known for wearing a hat for years. Recently I haven’t been wearing one as often. I guess maybe I’m going incognito! Some people tell me they don’t recognize me without a hat. I tell them that’s the idea!

Saturday morning breakfast went from one idea to the next then to the next. We had planned to go to #79 place, Water Street Market in Shullsburg, but when Tom and Bob couldn’t make it, I thought about going to Gus’s Diner in Verona because we hadn’t been there in awhile. But, when we met at the Chronicle – Terry, Potsie, Royce and me – it was decided to go down the road to Anita’s in Spring Green. The four of us left a little earlier than usual, around 7:15, and headed north with very overcast skies – but no rain in sight (much needed though). We got to Anita’s and were greeted by Arletta and Ann. Ann turned out to be our waitress and it was her 8th 50th birthday! I told Arletta that she saw us coming and then took another area! We sat at a table for five, not our usual table and just as we sat down in came a larger group. I told them we didn’t sit at our regular table for a reason and I guess it was them coming in. They thanked us! Breakfast was really good. I tried something new (for me anyway) when I had Chicken Fried Steak. It came with a huge piece of steak and lots of American Fries and two eggs. I got through all but a couple bites of American Fries (with onions and cheese) and couldn’t eat my toast. I was full! I thanked Sofit afterwards for the good food! We toured Spring Green a little then headed back to Dodgeville and on with the rest of the day!

This year’s two-week edition of the Dodgeville Town Square is history. There were very warm days where activities and music had to be cancelled, but in all it was a huge success! Volunteers were plentiful. The final night (Saturday) saw a filled area listening to the final bands, enjoying beverages and just having good conversation. There was a DHS class reunion (55 years) that brought a good number of people. Hats off to the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce and everyone involved! It’s great PR for Dodgeville and the area!

Dodgeville’s DodgeFest, featuring local and other powerful music will take place in the Iowa County Courthouse Parking Lot this Saturday. There will also be lots of refreshments and food trucks. The following week is the Cobb Corn Roast will be held August 4-9 with such things like BINGO, the return of the Car Show, live music, ball games, volleyball, chicken BBQ, FREE Sweet Corn and a huge parade, both on Sunday. There will be games and activities for the youngsters too. Then, of course, the summer ends with the Iowa County Fair at the fairgrounds in Mineral Point that runs Thursday thru Labor Day! Oh and who can forget the Ridgeway Labor Day elaboration when the ghost returns! That’s a lot gong on over a short time!

High School football practice begins next week. It’s always very hot when they begin practice. With most very early in the morning and/or later in the evening. Cross Country, boys soccer and girls volleyball begins practice about two weeks later. Good luck to all the area teams on having good seasons!
