This coming Sunday is Easter Sunday. It marks the most important Christian holiday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion on Good Friday. It is a day of religious significance, often accompanied by secular traditions like egg hunts, the Easter Bunny, and family gatherings.
Myself, I go to church and then usually a family get together either at a home or the family goes out to eat somewhere. This year, again, we are going to niece Amy (Nick) Berg’s home! The Easter Egg Hunts are way out of my league now!
I had the chance to watch some of opening day and Saturday’s Milwaukee Brewers baseball games. They did very well in those two games – hope the season can go that way from here on out! They pitched well, hit well, played good defense and had good attendance. What more can you ask? And that was without two stars!
Baseball season was supposed to start for Dodgeville this past Tuesday. Rain was predicted Tuesday thru Thursday next scheduled game) with the possibility of snow on Thursday (today)! If we get measurable snow that willhit the 27 predicted (with my calculations). *****
Saturday morning breakfast took us to the southeast a little for a two-fold reason. First, we like to have breakfast together and 2nd I needed to pick up some twine to tie papers with on Wednesdays. So we headed out at 7:30 to Blanchardville. Blanchardville’s Main Street is being torn up, so it was a little challenge to get to our destination. This time it was Husie’s, a place we hadn’t been in a very long time! Tom drove Bob, Terry, Potsie and me and we found an easy back way to Husie’s. Shirley does it all at Husie’s as she was running the bar and had to wait on the five of us and everyone else plus cook and serve the food! I’m sure she even has to clean up after we left! She sat down with us to start with, but when she found out I was one of the owners of the Pecatonica Valley Leader (hometown paper) along with the Dodgeville Chronicle and Democrat Tribune she stood up and figured she had better tend to business.
After we finished eating, we headed down and across the street a little to Ederer’s Hardware to pick up a case of twine. I also bought a bunch of heavy duty ties for putting up the wind screen at Centennial Park. It was a good day talking with people we don’t get to see very often! *****
We still need more chefs that want to make grilled cheese specialties for the April 25th Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships that will be held right here in Dodgeville – at Harris Park, inside of Ley Pavilion. The number of entries depict how many VIP tickets can be sold. There’s a lot of work and cost to make this event happen and we are also short on volunteers! Please volunteer your time for some of it and if you can cook, that’d be great! I can’t cook, but I have been a part of it since it was moved to Dodgeville and it is a great day with a lot of fun for the entire family. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m.
Another event happening that same day is the Annual Dodgeville City Wide Garage Sales throughout the entire community. People can sign up for it at the Dodgeville Chronicle to be placed on the map and can also run an ad in our paper!
It’s about 6 weeks before the “Cruizn the Courthouse” opener – formerly Cars ‘n Coffee. Remember it’s now the 2nd Thursday of the month through October and not the 2nd Saturday! It will now run from 5:00 p.m. until dusk.
For my special day this week, I’m jumping back one day to Wednesday, April 1st – April Fools’ Day, celebrated annually on April 1, is a worldwide, unofficial holiday dedicated to playing practical jokes, hoaxes, and pranks. While often celebrated with lighthearted fun, the day is sometimes marked by elaborate media hoaxes and, in some traditions, the pranking period expires at noon. The “April Fool”: Jokesters often reveal their pranks by shouting “April Fool(s)!” to the victim. While its exact history is shrouded in mystery, the embrace of April Fools’ Day jokes by the media and major brands has ensured the unofficial holiday’s long life.
Brother Pat was born three days after April Fools’ Day!
