We received a nice note from Brenda Bredeson of Minocqua with her renewal of the Pecatonica Valley Leader for her mother Teresa Waage of Janesville. Earlier the paper (in Blanchardville) was the Blanchardville Blade. There also was a paper in Argyle called the Argyle Atlas. Then the two merged and became the Blade-Atlas. Then came the Argyle Agenda. We bought the Blade-Atlas and when we bought the Argyle Agenda, we decided to change the name completely, hence came the name Pecatonica Valley Leader! Anyway, Brenda went on saying, "Thank you for taking care of this (renewal) for us. Getting the Leader in the mail is still the highlight of my mom’s week!"

Another note came to us for the Democrat Tribune. It came from Pointers Carol Spelic and Richard Moninksi, of Mineral Point. They said,"We appreciate all that your team does to keep our community informed! Thank you Carol & Richard."

After a little shower Friday night, it turned out to be a great weekend for the 170th Iowa County Fair at the fairgrounds in Mineral Point. It was very muggy on Saturday when I was there, mainly in the AM. I had a chance to talk with several people I probably only see at the fair each year and I met a few new people too! I had one of the Iowa County Cattleman’s delicious steak ( I call pork) sandwiches and brought one back for brother Pat. For the first time I drove from the show barns to the Fair House. Those hills get steeper each year and it was hot and muggy. When I got to the Schimming Building for the beef show, I took a look at Gregg May’s list of exhibitors. It was so wet it almost fell apart. They didn’t have an extra list for me, so had to wing it with trying to keep track of who is who. I don’t know the kids like I used to!

When I got back to the Chronicle, I fell asleep at my computer almost immediately, for about 1 1/2 hours. I guess I was tired! I woke up in time to go get a coffee to keep me going the rest of the day!

Because it was fair time our Saturday morning breakfast took us to Mineral Point and the Red Rooster Cafe. Tom DeMuth really likes their Quiche. He topped it off with cottage cheese, followed by a piece of Pecan pie and ice cream. Just because it was his birthday just under a month ago I guess he wanted to treat himself! It was Bob, Terry, Tom, Potsie, Royce and myself meeting at the Chronicle at 7:00. Everyone was early! We met Dave Stone there. He just got back from his summer-long trip out west. He had a great time wind surfing, playing golf and pickle ball. He filled us in on some of his adventures. Amy was our waitress. Our main dish was Apple French Toast that Terry, Dave and I had, but Royce had his Biscuits & Gravy and Potsie his traditional breakfast of eggs and bacon. It was all very good, especially when you add bacon! Amy told us she was a Schmitz, a very common name in Mineral Point. Her dad is Jerry, a Mineral Point Lion and Zone Chairman. I’ve known him long time! She kept us in coffee very well. Tammy, the owner, was the cook.

I was eating brunch at Cafe by Country Kitchen Sunday after church and someone came up to me and asked if they were going to read about this in the Chronicle. I said that I only write about Saturday breakfast. I do think that the people I get the chance to eat with on Sundays are important to me, but it’s usually a lot of different people. Saturday breakfast is consistent. *****

Coming up this Saturday is the annual "Smoke in the Valley", a fundraiser sponsored by Prem Meats in Spring Green. It is held right next to Prem’s. It features smoked every kind of meat you can imagine, all free of charge with paid admission. There are three bands that play during the day too! All proceeds go to charities. I always run into people that I know. There are several local booths and some from quite a distance. It’s a lot of fun with a very huge crowd!

Here’s my "Special Day" for this week and It’s today, Thursday, September 10. It’s National "Swap Ideas Day", a day to to encourage people to share creative concepts, insights, and feedback in return for new perspectives. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate – Host a brainstorming session at your school, office, or with a group of friends.Share an unpolished project or a thought you have kept to yourself to get constructive feedback. Connect online through video chats or community forums to discuss unique solutions to everyday challenges. If you’d like, share a personal or creative project you are working on right now, and we can swap some fresh ideas to help you move forward! It’s kind of a wierd day, so that’s why I picked it! *****

And who can forget tomorrow, Friday, September 11! That’s a day everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when the Twin Towers in New York City went down due to suicide airplanes. I hope nothing. like that happens again!
