Led by the Robinson twins and other steady runners, Dodgeville-Mineral Point’s girls cross country team eased to a win at the Darlington Invitation Cross Country Meet held Saturday. They bested runner-up and host Darlington 45-62.
Boscobel has a couple athletes this season that should help their football team be competitive. Quarterback Lukas Whiteaker threw for 185 yards on 14 of 27 passing and completed two for touchdowns.
It all started with a partially blocked punt and went downhill from there. The Platteville Hillmen blocked a fourth down punt after a six play Dodgeville drive that started the SWC opener Friday.
In a back and forth battle last Friday night the Lancaster Flying Arrows took down the Mineral Point Pointers 12-7. The game, played at Ron Murphy Field in Mineral Point, was the season opener for both teams.
Iowa-Grant had the upper hand for the first half with a 12-8 lead but Fennimore had its way the second. The Golden Eagles found a higher gear and went on to keep the “milk can” with a 30-12 win. The game was the non-conference opener for both squads.
Since August 1 area high school football teams have been have been preparing for their August 17 or 18 opener by blocking each other. Friday they get to use their skills against other teams at their scheduled scrimmages.
It was a tough way to end the 2023 regular season when the Dodgeville Knights came out on the short end of a 4-3 score with Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb. Saturday in the opening round of the Western Section playoffs.
