Along The Ad Routes

Saturday morning breakfast was a “Welcome home to Dave Stone” breakfast. We had to go close to where he lives (Klevenville) so we decided to make the trip to Gus’s Diner in Verona. Dave had been on a three month trip to the west coast to play golf, do windsurfing and tour a lot of places. He even showed us photos of him at the bottom of the Grand Canyon! Anyway, it was Bob, Terry, Dewey, me and Dave there as Potsie and Tom had to head north. We had Heather as our waitress, someone Dewey had regularly when he lived in Mount Horeb. She is really bubbly and loved to listen to stories that we told. Stuffed French toast and regular French toast with eggs were the main choices, but I had my usual omelette. This time I added hash browns (at no charge) and I finished everything. We hadn’t been to Verona in quite some time, so it was a good choice!

This Saturday is what may be the final (for the season) Cars and Coffee get together just outside of Cathryn’s Market on Merrimac Street in Dodgeville. The weather is supposed to be fantastic - in the higher 70s - and not much wind. It’s really great to see all the vintage vehicles that congregate outside on the street and in the courthouse parking lot outside of the Chronicle building. There also is a lot of coffee drank and bakery goods from the Quality Bakery and Kwik Trip. It’s a good time had by all!

Something that is coming very soon is the Dodgeville Annual “Trunk or Treat” that is held in the courthouse parking lot on Saturday, October 26 from 1-3 p.m. It’s hosted by In the Beginning Child Care. There’s food, games and fun for the entire family!

Baseball really is a game of inches. When the Brewers lost the third game of their series, if the home run that was hit by Pete Alonzo of the Mets would’ve been just a little farther towards center field, it would’ve been caught. It just cleared the fence in the only place it juts out in an “L” on the field. FYI - Pete Alonzo once played for the Madison Mallards baseball team!

This Friday night is Homecoming Football for Dodgeville, Mineral Point and Iowa-Grant. Then Saturday they have their dances!

Fall Baseball is now done for the season. It was a very good time with weather cooperating for the most part. We only had one rain out and very little wind until last Sunday! Thank you to all who helped with everything - coaching, getting the fields prepped, keeping score and especially working the concession stands. We wouldn’t be able to pay for balls, other equipment needed and the umpires without you!

Yesterday (9th) was my niece Amy’s birthday and today (10th) is nephew Darren’s birthday. Happy Birthday to both!

Today, Thursday, October 10 is National Newspaper Carrier Day. Now, we deliver only through the mail except for myself, Heather, Shelly, Ryan, Grant and Cathy - all who take papers to C-stores, grocery stores, post offices and other places that carry our products. So I guess we are part of the celebrated day. The purpose of National Newspaper Week and Newspaper Carrier Day is to highlight the contributions that newspapers, their staff and carriers make to gather and deliver the news to their communities.
