Along The Ad Routes

Saturday morning I had to make a trip north to Straka Meats in Plain to pick up some beef brother Pat had bought so our Saturday morning breakfast took us that direction to Anita’s in Spring Green for a 7:30 start to the day. We had searched for a breakfast spot in Plain, but couldn’t find any - except maybe if we stopped at somebody’s house and surprise them! At Anita’s it is alway very good food and it’s great to see Sofit back in the kitchen! It was Terry, me and Tom leaving the Dodgeville Chronicle to head that way, meeting Dewey and Dave there. Bob had his son from Washington at his home for a few days. We got there about three minutes before Dave with Dewey, who lives right in Spring Green, being late! Three omelettes, one eggs and bacon, one eggs and toast and one big bowl of oatmeal later we were all pretty filled up. Arletta was our waitress. She has been there since day one even since they were located in Arena. She even remembered one of the guys always wanted peanut butter so she had some with her when she brought the food. Bob was that guy and he wasn’t there though. We even remember her before she was pregnant and her son is now in 3rd grade! Potsie had to meet up with Iowa County Sheriff Mike Peterson to head to Richland Center and pick up a squad car that was ready and needed for the Saturday afternoon shift. He took off at 8:10 and we stayed a while to chat and catch up. Then Dave was off to Klevenville and the rest of us headed to Plain.

The meat was all ready and loaded by the time I paid the bill at Straka’s and we headed back to Dodgeville. With the new highway surface, it is a very nice drive!

The Mineral Point Volleyball Team had some very tough luck at state last week as they won the first two sets, but then dropped the next three in the semi-finals. They had a great season. There are plenty of teams that would liked to have been in their shoes!
*****
The same goes for the Highland Football Team that lost out in the semi-finals of 8-Player Football to Owen-Withee by two points. They had a great inaugural season in 8-Player play!
*****
And then there was Mount Horeb/Barneveld football, who lost to Catholic Memorial by three points in the Division 3 semi-finals. They, too, had a great season!

Now it’s the beginning of the High School Winter Sports Season. Girls basketball and girls gymnastics practice began on Monday with the boys practices starting this coming Monday!

I’ve heard rumors about a couple of business having activities in Dodgeville, but haven’t substantiated them yet. Hopefully there will be more to come soon!

Small Business Saturday will be here in just a couple of weeks (November 30). There’s a lot going on around the area to kick off the holiday season. Dodgeville will have Breakfast with Santa and Photos with Santa at the Red Room, a Cookie Walk at the Methodist Church, two vendor Fairs (high school and Dodger Bowl), a FREE movie (A Charlie Brown Christmas), Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, a 6:00 Holiday Parade followed by a Lighting Ceremony, followed by a Live Nativity at Abundant Life Christian Center and finally a Holiday Party at the EMS Garage.

Today is International Girl’s Day. That intrigues me because I celebrate girls (women) every day! Actually it’s the day when you can recognize the power of girls everywhere—and highlight, discuss, and take action to advance the rights of, and opportunities for, girls across the globe. Every girl has the power to realize their potential. I probably should take a girl to lunch today!
