Along the Ad Routes

At least the Green Bay Packers of late are playing a little more like the
Packers we have been used to watching the past few years. It was quite the
sight watching some of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans being
played in a snow downpour. Aaron Rodgers threw some very good passes
and the defense did some good things for the second straight week. Maybe
having Clay Matthews back in the line-up is a key - also Jake Ryan and a
couple of healthy defensive backs.

The Wisconsin Badgers football team laid an egg in the second half of the
Big 10 championship game against Penn State. Probably the biggest thing
that hurt happened at the end of the first half when they gave up that "long"
touchdown pass to make their lead only 28-14 going into the intermission.
Then they started the second half the same way and couldn't stop the pass.
Their defensive backs were getting beat off the line of scrimmage by the Penn
State ends. The Badgers are heading to the Cotton Bowl and play the day
after New Years. That's a holiday for most people, but probably a work day
for me!

I had a couple of driving experiences last week - before the snow came. I
was driving down a side street in Dodgeville that had vehicles parked on both
sides making the passing of two vehicles fairly tight but manageable. There
was a vehicle turning the corner heading towards me when I was about in
the middle of that street. The problem was a person opened the door of their
car just as I was about to pass it. I had to swerve towards the oncoming car
to miss door that was being opened without hitting the oncoming car head
on. That was a challenge.
The second one was in Mineral Point as I parked in a no parking zone in
front of the Red Rooster Cafe when I was delivering placemats. I was inside
just a short time, but when I came out there were two cars trying to turn the
corner where I was parked and they couldn't see around my van to turn. Also,
the car parked in front of me was leaving at that same time. With the one
pulling out in front of me and the others trying to turn in that same direction,
I created a traffic hazard - sorry!

I worked the "Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus" at the Dodgeville Congregational
Church Saturday as a "Guest Chef." Actually I wasn't a chef because
you wouldn't want me cooking anything! I did have a good time
serving food and drink, seating people and clearing tables. I even helped put
away some tables and chairs afterwards

Next stop Saturday was at "Santa's Secret Shop" on Highway 23 North of
Dodgeville (Old Thym's). I didn't get there until almost noon, but there were
still a lot of vehicles and people there - at the vendor's fair and youngsters
shopping (with elves helping). The above photo shows a lot of wrapping
being done by some of our teachers!

This Sunday, at Cobblestone Coffee house in downtown Dodgeville from
1-2:30 p.m. will be your last chance to have me take your photo with Santa
and Mrs. Claus for your keepsake. I should look back and see when I first
started taking them. I'm guessing its been well over 3
