Quarterback Martin Anderson passed for 150 yards and a touchdown, while Brock Erickson ran for 134 yards and another score as Pec/Argyle beat Seneca- Wauzeka-Steuben 21-6 in Saturday’s Homecoming game at Mckellar Park in Blanchardville.
A large crowd watched Saturday’s Homecoming game as PA’s defense contained SWS for most of the contest. PA struck late in the first quarter after Anderson’s long run reached the Blue- Golds’ 22-yard line. On the next play, he connected with Braydon Slater down the left sideline for a touchdown. Luke Leonard’s extra point put PA ahead 7-0.
On the Blue-Golds’ next possession, Charlie Krebs dropped a runner for a loss, and Leonard chased down quarterback Joshua Martin for another sizable loss to force a punt.
PA quickly capitalized on its next possession. Starting with favorable field position, Anderson rolled right to extend the play and found Slater near the sideline, moving PA deep into SWS territory. A few plays later, Erickson took the ball from the 16-yard line, broke several tackles, stayed on his feet and scored, giving PA a 13-0 halftime lead.
SWS pinned PA deep in its own territory to start the second half and forced a punt. The Blue- Golds blocked the kick and recovered it in the end zone, trimming the lead to 13-6 early in the third quarter.
It was SWS’s only second-half score. PA’s defense limited the Blue-Golds to 59 rushing yards and 7 passing yards and rarely let them cross midfield.
In the fourth quarter, Erickson’s run of more than 20 yards moved PA into scoring position. Anderson followed with a short keeper around the right side for a touchdown, then ran the same play for the two-point conversion to make the final score 21-6.
The Blue-Golds appeared to score on a late fourth-quarter pass, but a holding penalty erased the touchdown. PA’s defense then closed out the game, allowing the offense to take a knee and seal the Homecoming victory.
Per Bound, Anderson’s stats for the game include 9 for 15 passing the ball for 150 yards and a touchdown and 56 yards rushing the ball and a score. Erickson ran it 23 times for 134 yards and a touchdown. Luke Leonard led all receivers with five receptions for 82 yards. Charlie Krebs led on defense with eight tackles.
PA is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Six Rivers Conference. Their next game will be this Friday at Riverdale (1-1, 2-2) in a conference game.
