Dear Editor,
Astonishment is what I felt while reading State Senator Howard Marklein’s September 10th Letter to the Editor. In it he states his strong opposition to two new proposed transmission lines that “would cut through some of the most pristine land in Wisconsin” and produce many negative impacts. He suggests a way to stop these lines: “Strong public participation will be crucial throughout this process. Stay engaged, keep fighting, and don’t give up.”
His advice reminds me of what hundreds and hundreds of people and several organizations actually did from 2016 through 2024 when they joined together to oppose the Cardinal Hickory Creek transmission line planned for our area. Like him they too were concerned about the numerous negative impacts associated with transmission lines.
Has Senator Marklein forgotten Cardinal Hickory Creek?
I ask because regarding the present proposed lines he promises: “As your State Senator, I will strongly express my opposition and magnify the voices of those I represent.”
Seems strange because he never did any of that with Cardinal Hickory Creek, despite repeated requests for his help. Maybe if he had paid attention to his constituents back then we would not presently have Cardinal Hickory Creek cutting through our pristine land doing exactly what he claims to be concerned about: creating an eyesore, dividing farms, running directly through backyards, negatively impacting property values, while we pay for it through our, as he says, “already skyrocketing utility rates.”
