Mary was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Edward and Ellen (Clavohn) Blotz
She grew up and was educated in Wisconsin. She graduated from St, Mary’s School of Nursing working as a nurse during her training and after graduating.
She met her future husband as a friend and teammate of her brother Ed Blotz. Mary married Joseph Blazej Edl on Nov, 22, 1952, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Ridgeway, Wisconsin. They made their first home in Wisconsin and soon brought four children into the world.
In 1958 they moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where Joe established his own business. Five children were added to the family in Wyoming. Mary returned to work as a registered nurse at St, John’s Hospital in Jackson Wyoming when the youngest child was able to make his own cold cereal breakfast.
Mary enjoyed being dad’s wife; being a nurse, especially for new moms and babies (and she was good at it); and being a mom. She was very supportive of activities that involved her children. Mary also enjoyed roses and a clean house which was tough with 8 kids about.
Mary enjoyed the Catholic church and had close friendships with members of her faith community. She put her gifts to work in whatever activity needed help but especially sewing, cleaning, and decorating.
Although she married a navy seaman, Mary didn’t know how to swim and disliked being around quantities of water that were bigger than a bathtub.
Mary and Joe were active members of Holy Family Catholic Church of Payette which joined with nearby Fruitland Idaho Catholics to form the current Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her sister, eight children, five grandchildren, ten great grand kids and one great-great grandchild who is named after her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her husband and one son.
Memorial gifts may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland, Idaho.
