As we prepare for the upcoming school year, the Dodgeville School District is adjusting the Middle School schedule to provide longer class periods for English language arts (ELA) and math. Student learning data shows opportunities for stronger growth in these areas. The new schedule will help us use our instructional time more effectively.
With this change, the time dedicated to ELA and math will be better aligned with the recommendations of our instructional resources. The extended periods will give teachers additional time and flexibility to provide high-quality instruction, guided practice, intervention, extension, and time for students to apply their learning.
Strong reading and math skills support learning across all subject areas. Students use reading and writing to understand information, communicate their thinking, and engage in science, social studies, and other classes. Math develops problemsolving, reasoning, and criticalthinking skills that students can apply in school and throughout their daily lives.
Science and social studies will each be taught during a 45-minute class period and remain important parts of a well-rounded education. These subjects help students understand the natural world, learn from history, explore different perspectives, and connect classroom learning to the world around them. Teachers will continue to provide high-quality instruction aligned with grade-level standards.
We recognize that changing a school schedule requires careful planning and teamwork. Throughout the year, our staff will review student progress and the impact of the schedule across all subject areas, making adjustments as needed.
