Major General retired Robert B. Adams 92, passed away peacefully after a brief hospitalization, June 24, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida. Born August 29, 1933, in Buffalo, New York to William and Leila (Grigsby) Adams. Robert’s early passion and aptitude for sports (basketball and baseball) led to a scholarship at Canisius College where he earned a B.B.A (Accounting and Auditing). As Captain of the basketball team, he led Canisius to the NCAA Final Four in 1955.
Upon graduation, Robert enlisted in the Army in Anti-Aircraft Artillery before specializing in Finance, with tours in France, Iran, Ft. Harrison, Indianapolis, the Pentagon, and two tours in Vietnam in addition to earning a M.B.A from George Washington University. He retired after 31 years as a Two-Star General.
Returning to New York state during the Cuomo administration as First Deputy, and then as Commissioner for the Office of General Services, for nine years before being appointed as an appeals court judge for the unemployment insurance compensation board.
Known by reputation for integrity, and professional achievement, Robert lived a life of service, kindness and humor. He loved to laugh and share entertaining tales. Summer road trips were a favorite, especially the annual drives back to Wisconsin. As mobility became more challenging, books on tape were a daily source of entertainment, as was watching televised sports.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Karen (Nagel) Adams of Fort Myers, FL, a brother and sister-in-law Dick and Kris (Nagel) McKichan of Platteville, a beloved community of extended family and many lifelong friends and colleagues who will miss his warmth and wit. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Adams of Farfield, New York.
A Celebration of Life for Robert Adams will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 1, 2026, at the Cobb Community Center located at 404 Motel Street, Cobb, Wisconsin.
