The Mineral Point Pointers scored six runs in the sixth inning to help solidify a victory 9-1 at Riverdale Tuesday afternoon.
Up 2-0 going into the top half of the sixth inning, Hudson Schroeder walked. He then stole second and third base and scored on Elliot Kite’s single. Connor Rolli hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Kite. After Adam Cody single, Grady Finley grounded into a fielder’s choice as Kite was out trying to score.
With two outs and runners on the corners, Brett Bossert was intentionally walked, loading the bases. Cole Ripp hit into what would have been the third out but an error by shortstop Eli Campbell allowed Finley to score. Brylen Lee’s double cleared the bases making it 8-0.
Both teams would score a run in the seventh inning as the Pointers win it 9-1 to move to 19-4 for the season.
Adam Cody got the win for the Pointers pitching 6.2 innings allowing no runs on four hits, he struck out seven and walked three. Schroeder, in relief, allowed one run on two hits, he did not strike out a batter and walked one.
Cody was not only solid on the mound, but equally impressive at the plate going 4×4 with two runs scored. Finley, Bossert, Lee and Kite each had two hits for the Pointers. The team belted out fourteen hits.
