Seven different Panthers hit doubles, the team pounded out fourteen hits, scored ten runs, and Brynne Pettit only allowed five hits as Iowa-Grant blanked Southwestern Monday night 10-0 at Cobb City Park.
The Panthers scored in every inning except the second. In the first, Quinn Hoeper walked and ended up at second base on Pajessa Baker’s sacrifice bunt. Ava Klaas hit a double which scored Hoeper. Klaas then scored on a single by Carley Shores making it 2-0.
In the third inning, with one out, Presley Lehman singled. She stole second base and advanced to third base on a wild pitch and then scored on a Wildcat error by the pitcher making it 3-0. Back-toback doubles by Trinity Baker and Emory Riemenapp made it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Panthers made it 5-0 after Klaas singled and stole second and scored on Shores’ single to center. Four more runs were scored in the fifth. With two outs, Riemenapp and Pettit walked when Myah Batton hit a double to clear the bases. Hoeper then doubled putting runners on second and third, and Pajessa Baker doubled to clear the bases making it 9-0.
The Panthers ended the game in the bottom of the sixth when Lehman doubled to lead off, she stole third base and scored on a wild pitch making the final 10-0.
Lehman led the Panthers at the plate going 3×3. Hoeper, Pajessa Baker, Klaas, and Shores each had two hits. To recap, Pajessa Baker, Trinity Baker, Klaas, Riemenapp, Batton, Lehman, and Hoeper all connected on doubles.
Pettit pitched a five-hit shutout going six innings. She struck out seven and did not allow a walk.
