I-G softball wins weekend Triangular

The Panther softball team defeated Brookwood 5-4 and Viroqua 11-1 to win the weekend triangular at Viroqua on Saturday.

In game one, Brookwood scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Iowa-Grant cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third when, with two outs, Carley Shores hit a double to left field scoring Quinn Hoeper who singled earlier in the inning.

The Panthers took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Hoeper reached first base on an error which scored both runners.

Iowa-Grant tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner on first base, Trinity Baker doubled scoring one run, and Emory Riemenapp’s single scored Baker making it 5-2.

Brookwood scored two runs in the top of the sixth before a pop out ended the inning. Pitcher Brynne Pettit only faced three batters in the top of the seventh to retire the side as the Panthers ended the game with a double play.

Pettit pitched the entire game allowing five hits, four runs. She struck out eleven and did not issue a walk. Offensively, Iowa-Grant had eight hits with Pajessa and Trinity Baker each having two hits each to lead the Panthers at the plate. Trinity Baker and Shores both connected on doubles.

In their game against Viroqua, Iowa-Grant scored seven runs in the fifth inning, Quinn Hoeper pitched a no-hitter as the Panthers defeated the Blackhawks 11-1 in six innings. Iowa-Grant totaled 15 hits in the game.

Iowa-Grant went up 1-0 in the top of the second when Hoeper singled to score Pettit who earlier walked. Viroqua tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Kate Quakenbush reached first base on an error by Trinity Baker. She later scored on Kolbi Primmer’s fielder’s choice.

The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the third after Shores led off and was hit by a pitch and she reached third base on Presley Lehman’s single. Lehman then stole second base and Shores scored on an error by the catcher, while Lehman advanced to third. Lehman scored on a tag up off Riemenapp’s fly ball. In the fifth with one out, the Panthers scored seven runs highlighted by Shores three-run home run which made it 9-1. It was 10-1 after Riemenapp doubled to score Lehman, who earlier in the inning had singled.

The Panthers added a run in the top of the sixth inning. Hoeper pitched a one, two, three inning to end the game after six innings 11-1. She pitched six innings allowing no hits, one run while striking out four and did not allow a walk.

At the plate, Myah Batton and Pajessa Baker both went 3×4 to lead the Panthers. Hoeper, Shores, Lehman and Riemenapp each had two hits.
