Two five-run innings helped the Panthers defeat the Cubans 12-2 Monday afternoon at Cobb Field in five innings.
Up 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning and with one out, the bats got hot for Iowa-Grant. Quinn Hoeper doubled and she scored on Pajessa Baker’s triple to right field. Baker then scored on Ava Klaas’s single. Presley Lehman’s single brought home a run, and Carley Shore’s triple brought in two more runs making it 7-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning and leading 7-2, the Panthers scored five more runs. With two runners on base courtesy of two Cuba City errors, Hoeper’s ground out scored a runner from third base. With runners at the corners, Klaas doubled scoring both runners. Klass then scored on Shores single making it 11-2. Laina McPhail’s single brought home Shores ending the game 12- 2 in five innings.
Brynne Pettit got the win on the mound for Iowa-Grant allowing four hits, two runs, she struck out one and walked two batters.
Offensively, Iowa-Grant had ten hits with Hoeper, Klaas, and Baker with two hits each. Klaas and Hoeper each doubled and Pajessa Baker and Trinity Baker both tripled.
Iowa-Grant will play at Mineral Point in its next game on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
