LILY PETTIT, a former Iowa-Grant High School athlete, was busy for the Lakeland University softball team last Pettit, a 5- foot 1-inch sophomore P/INF, appeared in three of four games for the Muskies at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) MIGKIES tournament in Montgomery, III.

She picked up wins in the opening two games against Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC), 5-4, and Aurora University (III), 8-4.

Pettit was called out of the bullpen in each game; limiting the Warriors and Spartans each to a pair of hits and no runs.

The wins elevated her season record to 11-4.

Pettit’s lone start in the tournament did not follow the same direction; lasting just 1.1 innings against second-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW).

The Falcons scored two unearned runs on two hits and a walk, and held that lead until the fifth when the Muskies tied the game.

CUW would ultimately prevail 3-2 after plating the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

In her three outings, Pettit tossed 103 pitches to a total of 31 batters. Lakeland finishes 2026 with a 26- 17-1 overall record that included a 16-8 mark against conference opponents.

DAELYNN RHOADES, a former Barneveld High School athlete, had her season on the Cornell College (la) softball team come to an end last weekend.

Rhoades, a 5-4 senior P/INF, started two of three games for the Rams at the Midwest Conference (MWC) tournament held in Jacksonville, III.

Both contests ended in losses for the Rams; 6-5 to host Illinois College and 8-1 to Lake Forest College (III).

Rhoades went deep into both games before being relieved; 6.1 innings against the Lady Blues and 5.1 to the Foresters.

Combined she allowed 13 runs, eight earned, on 15 hits, three walks, and a hit batter.

Rhoades also fanned nine hitters, with eight coming against Illinois College.

She was also tagged with the loss against the Foresters, and finishes the season 6-5.

Cornell concludes its season 24-18 overall and 10-6 in MWC games.

DOM MCVAY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, powered the UW-Whitewater baseball team at the WIAC tournament.

McVay, a 5-9 junior OF, hit safely in all five games as the Warhawks won the conference tournament on their home field.

In the second, and deciding, game against UW-La Crosse, McVay set the table for the Warhawks by belting home runs in consecutive at bats; first a solo shot followed by a 2-run blast.

He finished the 11-9 win with the two homers in five trips to the plate, two runs scored and three runs batted in (RBI).

McVay reached base at least twice in three of the four preceding games as well that culminated with a 2-RBI single in the ninth inning of the first game against UW-L last Saturday.

LEYTEN BOWERS, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a constant visitor to the bases for the Warhawks as well last week.

Bowers, a 6-0 senior INF, was on base 10 times as the Warhawks posted a 4-1 mark at the tournament. In the two games against the Eagles, he made it to the bases six times, with three hits in the 11-7 win followed by three walks in the 11-9 triumph.

One of his hits was a 3-run home run over the right field fence in the fourth inning that evened the game at the time, 4-4.

Bowers also homered in a 7-1 over UW-River Falls to set up a showdown with UW-L.

He finished the week with three runs scored and four RBI.

ETHAN WICKMAN, a former River Valley High School athlete, had effective appearances for the Warhawks last week.

Wickman, a 6-1 junior pitcher, allowed just an unearned run in a total of 3.2 innings on the bump.

His longest outing, 2.2 innings against UW-River Falls, resulted in Wickman fanning six of the 12 Falcons he faced while giving up three hits and two walks.

Including his one inning of work against UW-L, Wickman threw 68 pitches to 31 batters.

The two victories over the Eagles last Saturday gives the Warhawks their third consecutive tournament championship.

UW-W (41-4, 28-0) begins play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday by hosting Macalester College (Minn) at 11am.

AIDEN FISHNICK, a former Barneveld High School athlete, was on the mound one time for the UW-Milwaukee baseball team last week.

Fishnick, a 6-2 redshirt junior pitcher, handled the final 4.2 innings of a 13-11 loss to Youngstown State University (Oh).

Entering the game in the fourth inning trailing 9-0, Fishnick hit the first two batters to load the bases before retiring the next two hitters to end the inning.

Over the course of the next four innings, he allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out five as well.

The Panthers made the game interesting by scoring seven times in the ninth inning, but could not overtake the host Penguins.

UW-M (19-31, 11-10) welcomes Oakland University (Mich) to Franklin Field for Alumni Weekend and the final regular-season series of the season beginning Thursday.

LIAM STUMPF, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, provided consistent results for the Central Michigan University (CMU) baseball team last week.

Stumpf, a 6-0 redshirt senior pitcher, had near identical stat lines in two appearances for the Chippewas against Oakland and Akron.

He was not the pitcher of record in either contest after allowing an earned run on two hits, a walk, and a hit batter to each team.

The lone difference in the stat lines was an additional hit batter against the Zips.

Stumpf threw a total of 70 pitches to 17 batters.

CMU (22-28, 11-19) plays at the University of Massachusetts beginning Thursday for the final series of the regular season; all three games against the Minutemen will be televised on ESPN+.

LEXIE WEIER, a former Mount Horeb athlete from Mineral Point, recorded a top-five finish for the UW- W women’s track team last week.

Weier, a senior horizontal jump specialist, captured fifth place in the triple jump at the NIU Huskie Classic in DeKalb, III.

Her best effort of the day was 36 feet 3 inches (11.05m), a distance she marked twice during the competition.

Weier’s fifth-place finish was the best among non-NCAA DI athletes in the field.

UW-W will compete in Last Chance Meets on Thursday.

ANNA TISCH, a former Pecatonica High School athlete, was in one event for the University of Mary (ND) women’s track team last weekend.

Tisch, a sophomore sprinter/hurdler, was the top finisher to not qualify for the finals of the 400m hurdles at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference outdoor championships. She placed ninth out of 27 entrants with a time of 1:03.23.

The Marauders finished runner-up in the meet with 161 points, just six shy of Minnesota State.

UMary returns to action May 21 at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kan.

CALEB KITELINGER, a former Dodgeville High School athlete, was in action for the UW-Platteville men’s track team last week.

Kitelinger, a freshman sprinter, competed in two events for the Pioneers at the Uncaged Eagle Open.

He ran the second leg of the “A” 4×400 relay that placed sixth out of 19 teams with a time of 3:14.04.

Kitelinger was also among the 64 athletes in the field of the 100m, where he finished 33rd in 11.17.

UW-P will participate in meets at Augustana College (III) and UW-L this week.

JAMESON JOHNSON, a former Pecatonica High School athlete, recorded a hit in all three games for the Rock Valley College (III) baseball team last weekend.

Johnson, a 6-2 sophomore UTL, batted .375 (3-for-8) as the Golden Eagles went 2-1 at the NJCAA Region 4 semi-finals.

Two of his hits were home runs; one each against Sauk Valley Community College (III) and Morton College (III).

He drove in five runs and scored five times himself.

RVC (36-16) plays Kankakee Community College (III) on Thursday.

ANNIE ROBINSON, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a top finisher for the South Dakota State University women’s track team last Friday.

Robinson, a freshman distance runner, placed second in the 3000m steeplechase at the University of South Dakota Twilight Meet.

She crossed the finish line with a time of 11:29.65, less than one second behind the race winner.

SDSU sets its sights on the Summit League Championships beginning Thursday in Fargo, ND.

GRADY GORGEN, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, kicked off another season with the New York Bounders baseball team last week.

Gorgen, a 6-3 pitcher, tossed an inning of relief during the team’s first victory of the year, 7-3, over the Brockton Rox.

He faced the minimum of three batters in the sixth inning, relinquishing only a walk during his 18 pitches.

New York (2-1) plays the Ottawa Titans and Sussex County Miners this week.

MCKENZIE KRUSE, a former River Valley High School athlete, had a top-10 finish for the UW-Eau Claire women’s track team last week.

Kruse, a sophomore multi-event athlete, placed seventh in the 400m hurdles at the UW-L Uncaged Eagle Open.

She completed the race with a time of 1:02.13, and was one of five Blugolds finishing 10th or better.

UW-EC has meets in Rock Island, III., on Wednesday and UW-L on Thursday.

BRYN MEYER, a former Barneveld High School athlete, Meyer, a freshman sprinter/jumper, was part of the Duhawk contingent at the Uncaged Eagle Open.

She earned 13th place in the long jump with an effort of 17-3.25 (5.26m) in a field of 34 jumpers, and was 17th out of 46 in the 100m with a time of 12.91.

Loras travels to Rock Island, Ill., this week for its next meet.

ZACH BAUMBERGER, a former River Valley High School athlete, continued his season on the University of Dubuque (Ia) men’s track team last week.

Baumberger, a junior sprinter, ran in two events at the Uncaged Eagle Open in La Crosse.

He placed 49th in the 200m with a clocking of 23.84 and was 59th in the 100m in 11.98.

UD is at the Augustana (III) Final Qualifier beginning Wednesday.
