The Hollandale Rockies put five runs on the board in the first two innings then scored what proved to be the game winner in the sixth as they turned back the Wiota Indians 6-5 in Sunday’s Western Section opener.
Jerad Rear doubled in a run in the first frame and an error scored two more.
A single by Kasey Helgeson extended the Rockies lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Helgeson earned the win the Rockies in relief. He surrendered seven hits and five runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking two. Helgeson relived Tannler Ames who surrendered three hits and and shut out the Indians over six innings. He struck out nine and walked two Chase Ignatius led the Rockies with two rbis. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day.
Helgeson, Rear, Damon Hendrickson and Kyle Thompson rounded out the Hollandale offense.
Wiota made it interesting with a four run seventh and one more in the eight but were one run short at the end.
