Fennimore downs lowa-Grant 6-3 in girls’ softball

Iowa-Grant watched their 2-0 lead evaporate Thursday allowing Fennimore to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth and four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to help the Eagles secure a 6-3 victory at Fennimore City Diamonds.

The Panthers scored a run in the top of the third inning when Brynne Pettit walked and reached third on a Myah Batton single. Pettit scored on a throwing error by Fennimore’s catcher Kylie Cole.

Iowa-Grant scored again in the top of the fourth inning as Ava Klaas doubled to start the inning, and with two outs, she scored when Trinity Baker doubled to left field making it 2-0 Panthers.

Fennimore tied in the bottom half of the fourth inning when leadoff batter Kayahna Furrer connected on a solo home run to center field. After an error and a walk, Fennimore had two on when Sienna Maier singled home a run to tie the game at two apiece.

In the bottom of the fifth inning with two runners on and two outs, Fennimore scored four runs on singles by Cole and Maier with each getting an RBI, and a double by Campbell Fitzgerald which brought in two more runs making it 6-2.

The Panthers scored one run in the top of the sixth inning when Pajessa Baker singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Fennimore error.

Pettit pitched all six innings for Iowa-Grant allowing seven hits and six runs. She struck out three and walked four. The Panthers had five hits in the game led by Klaas who went 2×3.
