CESA 3 hosts free suicide prevention training

Fennimore, WI – CESA 3 encourages school-based mental health professionals, administrators, and community mental health partners to participate in SafeSide CARE: Evidence-Based Suicide Prevention Framework, a free two-part virtual training designed to help school teams implement a unified, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to suicide prevention taking place on June 10 and June 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The interactive training will provide participants with practical tools and strategies to support students experiencing mental health crises while strengthening collaboration and consistency across school support systems.

In today’s educational environment, schools play a critical role in supporting student mental health and well-being. SafeSide CARE provides a structured framework that helps professionals move beyond compliance-based approaches and toward meaningful, relationship-centered intervention practices grounded in research and best practice.

Throughout the two-part series, participants will explore the four pillars of the SafeSide CARE model: Connect – Build trusting relationships to better understand a student’s unique experiences and needs; Assess -Gather collaborative, personspecific information to develop appropriate supports; Respond – Apply best-practice interventions including safety planning, consultation, and referral strategies; and Extend – Implement long-term supports and skills that help students beyond the immediate crisis. Participants must attend both sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

The training is specifically designed for school-based mental health professionals and the administrators who support them. Community mental health professionals who work closely with school systems are also encouraged to attend. In addition to learning evidence based response strategies, participants will engage in hands-on skill practice, collaborate with regional peers, and explore how to effectively apply suicide prevention frameworks within the unique realities of school settings.

Registration is available at cesa3events.org/safeside. In addition to the two-day event, registration includes free access to ongoing Safe- Side CARE resources and support following the training, including a searchable online resource library, membership in a professional community of practice, and monthly office hours with SafeSide expert staff for continued consultation and learning.

Participation in the training is free thanks to support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and SAMHSA federal grant funding.
