Panthers knock off Redbirds

Quinn Hoeper went the distance and Pajessa Baker struck for four straight hits and an rbi to lead Iowa- Grant to a 15-4 win over Darlington in a SWAL softball game Monday.

Hoeper also was the rbi leader for the Panthers, knocking in two as she went 2×4 with a double.

The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Baker singled down the left field line, and the Redbirds committed an error. Presley Lehman doubled down the right field line, Trinity Baker doubled down the left field line, Brynne Petit doubled to center field, and Myah Batton singled to center field, each scoring one run.

The Panthers added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Trinity Baker walked and scored on a wild pitch.

A single by Carley Shores extended the Iowa-Grant lead to 10-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

Iowa-Grant scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Batton hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Hoeper singled, scoring two runs, and Ava Klaas singled, scoring two runs.

Hoeper surrendered four hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two.

The Panthers tallied 15 hits in the game. Shores, Batton, Hoeper, and Baker each drove in two runs. Klaas collected two hits for Iowa-Grant in four at bats.
