Ridgeway – Bruce Paull – 608-341-8443

The Village of Ridgeway desires the residents in the community to attend a Public Involvement Meeting on Monday, May 18th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is on behalf of the Iowa County Highway Department and Jewell Engineering.

Covered will be the County HHH roadway project from Level Street to US Highway 18/151 on the east side of the Village of Ridgeway. Decisions need to be made on curb, gutter, sidewalk, and other concrete finishes. Retaining walls and storm sewers for storm water control will be discussed if you have concerns. The recent committee meeting on community-sensitive design concerns discussed street lighting, signage, and benches. Included in the recent discussions has been what defines the Ridgeway Main Street and where to have sidewalks and crosswalks. If you have concerns or knowledge of historical buildings or other information, you are also asked to attend and participate.

During the construction in 2028, there will be no signed detour. The one subject that I have noticed is that the US Post Office may need to have an alternate location for mailboxes during the project. Funding for the Main Street Project might be from the WisDOT Surface Transportation Program and Iowa County through the Local Roads Improvements Program (LRIP), Community Block Grant for Public Facilities, Wisconsin DNR, and USDA. The Village of Ridgeway is to pay 20% of the parking lanes/curb & gutter/sidewalk as long as the project comes in at or below estimated costs submitted in the grant application.

The Ridgeway Marshal’s Retirement Celebration will be on May 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. I bet the Marshal will engage until he has run out of conversation. After over 8 years serving the Village of Ridgeway and many other years in other positions and communities, I am sure he will have many stories. I honestly think that eggs will be served; they might be in a cake, so healthy eating is absolutely possible!

Public Health in Iowa County has updated the Germ Edition that is trending in Iowa County. Salmonella made its debut and snagged first place. This shows that food safety matters! Sneaking into second place is Chlamydia, a silent but definitely not shy STD. Still in third place, for the third month, not to forget, is E. coli. Wash hands, cook food completely, and practice safer sex. Let us not forget to test.

The Iowa County Drug Treatment Court team attended the 2026 seminar and came away with some new ideas and reinforcement of old, tried, and working procedures. One big idea that has some experiences is free help for Wisconsinites with common legal needs. Legal Tune Up is a program by Lift Wisconsin and provides you connections to understand your legal needs. Legal Tune Up can look into removable records such as eviction, criminal, and arrest records. Legal Tune Up can help you understand drivers licenses, debt collection with possible harassment, and child support modifications with the forms that you might need to file. This is a free service but can only give direction and help sort things out. legaltuneup.org

The Agri-View recently had an article about Data-center growth meets ag. The article states of the datacenter capacity shortfall. It also tracked the total U.S. ag electricity expenses which is forecast to continue to climb. Did you know that the total number of data centers, active or under construction across the United States of America is estimated at 4,960. That is 37% of the world’s share, or more than the next 14 countries combined. Of that number, Wisconsin has 67 data centers active or under construction. This information includes small cloud hubs up to sprawling colocation campuses. It is said that artificial intelligence is the main driving factor for this surge in need.

The Hidden Valley monthly serving focus for May is MAY I be Kind? You are not asked to donate funds to Hidden Valley Church. You are asked to be kind to others for the month of May, including teachers, neighbors, strangers, and yourself. The first week is family. A family is defined as a group united by marriage, blood, adoption, or strong emotional bonds in a household or mutual support. Some suggestions are to help in the home with cooking or cleaning. That could include grandparents who would like to see the whole family and be able to visit, relax, and maybe take in an event. The Farmers Market, Depot, and Veterans Memorial are economical with seating.

On Sunday, the event to take in is the Ridgeway Farmers Market. The Ridgeway Summer Market first day is Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 10th. The market will start at 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Music by Merl and a Girl, food trucks from Gloria’s Mexican Restaurant and Boss Cow Coffee. Balloon animals by Make U Laugh Production with the train depot museum open ASAP after church. New is the Market Passports so when you visit the participating area businesses collect a stamp which is good for $20 Market Money at Ridgeway. Kub’s Den Bar and Grill is sponsoring this first time promotion.

Just a reminder that the Ridgeway City Wide Garage sales start Friday, May 15th. The Ridgeway Volunteer Library will have a “pay what you feel comfortable with” rummage sale at the Ridgeway Community Center on Friday and Saturday. No clothing is planned to be available.

The Linden Historical Society held their annual meeting and program this past Saturday, May 2, 2026. It was a great success with almost everyone participating in the topic of Linden veterans in WW II. Randy Baker had an extensive collection of WW II veterans he has compiled and it shows the high percentage of young men and women who enlisted or were drafted from the township and village of Linden. Almost everyone has WW II veteran or veterans in their immediate family and each one has their own story. The Linden Historical Society was formed in 1976 with original officers being Al Spargo, President and Donna Caygill, Secretary-Treasurer. The charter members each had their own area of history or topic to cover. Mr. and Mrs.

Wayne Watkins, Edmund area; Mr. and Willard Jungbluth, Eastern part of Linden township; Mr. and Mrs. Alva Spargo, Western part of Linden township; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tredinnick, Mrs. Donna Caygill, Mrs. Phillip Reddell, Emma Parish, village of Linden; Al Spargo and Charles Tredinnick, mining history. This being the 50th year celebration has officers, Lisa (Rule) Springer, Barb (Holmes) Shaw, Treasurer; Robin (Crapp) Lindner, Secretary; Randy Baker, Vice-President; Jim Jewell, President. Since, 1998 Jim Jewell has served as the President. Soon after, 1998 the Linden Historical Society became a non-profit organization and also is affiliated with the State Historical Society. An annual meeting and election of officers is part of the By-Laws. Anyone is welcome to join the Linden Historical Society. If you are interested in serving on the board, please contact a board member. Jim Jewell has been taking care of the Facebook page postings, which has been very interesting and appreciated by all those who follow this page. At this time Jim will be taking a break and the group page will remain for announcements only. We all sincerely thank Jim for all of his time and appreciate all the history posted during his four years. We can look forward to the 200 year observance book of Linden and the immediate area from 1827- 2027 that Jim will be working on.

Linda Nichols, Jane O’Flahrity, Lisa McGuire and Liz Larson enjoy the Broadway Musical “Hairspray” on Sunday, May 3 at the Fireside in Fort Atkinson. We enjoyed the afternoon of browsing through shops, dinner and a great performance. We missed our good friend, Barb Hirsch who was planning to attend. In honor of Barb we each wore a scarf from Barb’s collection. We always enjoyed spending time together.
