For the second consecutive day, the Mineral Point Pointers secured a win-this time in extra innings, thanks to a ground ball error at Ted Evans Field. Pointer Elliot Kite reached base after a dropped third strike and moved to second on Connor Rolli’s bunt. Adam Cody then executed a sacrifice, advancing Kite and Rolli to second and third. Finally, Grady Finley hit a ground ball that allowed Kite to score when Riverdale’s third baseman, Conlan Walsh, committed an error.

The game was tied 1-1 until the third inning when Riverdale scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead. But similar to what they did against Platteville the day before, the Pointers answered. With the bases loaded, Pointer Cole Ripp singled to center field scoring a run. With the bases still loaded, Brylen Lee cleared the bases with a double to left field giving the Pointers a 5-4 lead.

In the fourth inning, Riverdale managed to tie the game with two outs with the bases loaded when an infield error by Ripp allowed Chieftain Landon Kinyon to score. They then took a 6-5 lead in the fifth after relief pitcher Lee walked a run home with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the fifth, Lee hit a single to center field with two outs, bringing in Ripp who had reached base on a fielder’s choice-to tie the game at 6-6. The tie remained until the bottom of the eighth inning.

“Every time they took the lead, we were able to answer back quickly. Plenty of errors on both sides. We were able to take advantage of theirs. Got a guy to third in extras and put the ball in play to get a good conference win,” said Pointer Head Coach Brett Lawinger.

Lee was the winning pitcher for the Pointers, allowing three hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Cody started the game for the Pointers, allowing four hits and five runs over four innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Lee, Ripp and Evan Kearns each had two hits in the game leading the Pointers at the plate. Lee had four RBIs while Ripp had two RBIs for the Pointers.
